From the Aerie President

This has really been some winter and I’ll bet everyone is looking forward to an early spring.
We had a great Snowflake Ball this year and I want to give a shout out to Rod and the guys for doing a great job grilling.

Please remember that we will be nominating officers in April. There are going to be openings and it would be a good time for more of the members get involved with the workings of the Club. Detailed information will be available in the meetings and at the Club in the coming weeks.

Come on Spring~

Getting the Winter Blues or Cabin Fever?! Come on down to the Club.

Please come out on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m. to our Auxiliary meetings. We would really like to have more members get involved, join in and be an active member. We really do have a good time working different activities and getting to know each other better.

We have a Pasty Day coming up March 13. Price is $5.50 each and we are taking preorders now.

We have also planned a Deal or No Deal Night on April 10th. Tickets are $5.00 each or 5 for $20.00. This was a big hit last time and I expect it will be again.

Monday night Bingo is one of our biggest money makers and this is one area we could use your help. If you could help out and volunteer that would be great. If you can help out with Bingo, please contact Kay Birgy at 543-5622.

If you have, or know of, a Charlotte High School Senior let them know about the Eagles’ Auxiliary Grant Fisher Bruce Scholarship. All they need to do is get an application from the guidance office, fill it out and return it before May 1st. We will be giving two scholarships out this year.

Sisters in our Thoughts and Prayers: Sue Crews, Rose Emerson, Shirley Mills, Emily Rasmussen, Veda Woods, Pam Schultz, Nickie Koos, Diana White and any other sisters that I am not aware of. If you know of any sisters that are having health issues or surgery please call the club and let the bartender know.

Families in our Thoughts and Prayers: The family of Charlie Koos. Charlie was one special guy. He will be missed.

Everyone, please come out and support our club in 2010. We would really like to see more members get involved and have a good time doing it!

From the Trustees

Since the last newsletter there’s not much to report. Wii bowling went over well. It was a big hoot for everyone that got involved.

Friday, February 13, Jeff Wood started dance music in the banquet room directly following fish fry. He has a huge selection of music and can play most any song you request. We are planning more nights coming up.

Jeff Wood will be working with us on Youth Dances. The first of the dances is set for Friday, February 26 – 8:00 to 11:30 pm. Ages are 19 and under and admission is free. Hot dogs, french fries, popcorn and pop will be available. Parents are encouraged to come and check it out.

We are still working on donations for an early fall wild game dinner and banquet. We will have more details for you later.

There is a Mystery Bus Trip scheduled for March 6 and the seats are going fast. Cost is $30.00 per person. If we can make this a success, we can look forward to more different trips in the future.

Happenings

Eagle Christmas Party – Our Annual Eagle Christmas party in December was a mixed crown of familiar and new faces. The kids – young and old - enjoyed a great meal and entertainment.

Christmas Day Dinner – Our Dinner this year was a huge success. The membership really stepped up and donated cash, food items, prep work and cooking. A big thank you to everyone who lent a hand and kudos to the organizers.

New Year’s Eve was a fun night at the club with plenty of food, 50/50’s, free jukebox, hats, noisemakers and door prizes.

New Year’s Day – Sticking with tradition, New Years Day is the Bartender’s day off. It was also the 1st Friday of the month and that meant Karaoke. The Trustees worked in shifts through the day and evening responding to the bell, serving drinks and taking a lot of ribbing.

Snowflake Ball – We had a full house for the Snowflake Ball in January. The grillmasters were hard at work in the cook shack preparing fantastic T-Bones and the Auxiliary workers had the kitchen running like clockwork. After a great meal, the band Haphazard took the stage with a variety of music and the dance floor filled up. It was a great night of food, fun and music.

Wii Golf Tournament – In January the Club held a Wii Golf tournament in the banquet room. There were about 30 entrants. They played double elimination games on three TV’s and everybody had a blast. First place winner was Matt Siple and second place went to Jesse Wells. Good job!

Superbowl Party – We had a good crowd at the Club on February 7 to watch the game. Lots of good eats, plenty of good commercials and a really great game. Congratulations, Saints!!

NASCAR – Fans gathered at the Club for the 2010 Daytona 500. There was a great selection of food brought in and a good race to watch with friends. Baring the siesta, it was a lively afternoon.
Youth Dance – On February 26 the Club had scheduled a Youth Dance. Unfortunately, the weather didn’t cooperate and it was cancelled because of snow. Safety first was the reason, but there were many phone calls. The date for the next Youth Dance is March 12.

Chili Cook-Off, Bake Sale and Walk-for-Warmth Bingo – There were five entries this year and it was a tough decision for the judges. Judging this year were Rick Johns, Chuck Jenson, Jerry Vanlinker and Charla Burnett. 1st place was won by Paul Root, Tom Heth took 2nd and Dwight Franklin 3rd. The chili was then available for sale to benefit the Charity. Bakers had also been busy preparing goodies for the bake sale. Tables were laden and there wasn’t a sweet tooth that was not satisfied. We had a full house for the Bingo and the players enjoyed a good day.

It was another great year for this Charity. Past Worthy President, Chuck Jenson, started this charity event a few years back and it has always brought in a crowd. Total raise for the day was $1,700 for a grand total of $4,500 with the matches.

Dart Tournaments – In February the Club began holding dart tournaments on Saturday afternoons. So far participation has been good. Anyone out there that would like to try their skill is welcome to come in and play.

Kitchen’s Open for Lunch

The Club has had the kitchen open for week day lunches for the last couple of months. The cooks have been working hard to provide good food and specials so that the word would get out to the local people and businesses. There has been a great response and many repeat customers. They are finding that word of mouth has been responsible for a good many of the meals sold. The daily specials are fast becoming favorites and folks like to argue over which is best. Along with the specials, there are burgers, sandwiches, soup and salads on the menu. Come in for a great lunch. Hours are 11:00 to 2:00.

Capitol Report

Many club members have contacted me and asked about the May 1 smoking ban. I called the Barry/Eaton Health Department and asked how it would be enforced. They told me that all areas where there is food or drink would be banned. This would include an outdoor patio that was licensed by the Liquor Commission for alcohol. They told me that a club could have an outdoor area such as a gazebo for smoking but no drinking. The health department will enforce this law, so please call them if you have further questions.

In recent newspapers it was announced that I am finishing my last term as state representative. I have filed papers for the state senate.

On February 6th,1898 the Fraternal Order of Eagles was founded by six theater owners sitting on a pile of lumber in Moran's shipyard in Seattle Washington. A few weeks later they chose the Bald Eagle as its official emblem and changed its name to “The Fraternal Order of Eagles.” In April 1898 the order formed a “Grand Arie”, secured a charter, framed a constitution and by-laws, and elected a president.

Newsletter Notice

Both the Aerie and Auxiliary officers and I have heard requests from members to receive their Newsletter via the internet, to have it available at the club or to receive it by mail. Some did not know the Newsletter was still being printed. In earlier Newsletters it was stated that future Newsletters would be available on line, at the club or mailed to any person requesting. Some people were not aware of this and others had trouble accessing the website at http://www.foe3552.blogspot.com/Because of the confusion, we will be sending postcards to all Member households to request that everyone respond stating their wishes. When this information is returned we will process the Newsletter – mail, internet and club – to satisfy everyone we can. You can also contact me by sending an e-mail to FOENews@yahoo.com.
